Radio Clásica (RNE) is Spain’s longest-running cultural radio station. Established in 1965, it has become a leading musical reference within the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE. Its 24-hour schedule offers distinctive content not available on any other nationwide station, with programming devoted to classical music, jazz, folk, and flamenco. Its strong public service vocation positions the station both as a cultural and artistic refuge for listeners and as a platform for performers, composers, musicologists, producers, and other key figures in Spain’s musical life, as well as for international artists visiting the country. Since its beginnings, Spanish and international contemporary creation has played a crucial role at Radio Clásica, and more than fifty composers have maintained a professional relationship with the station throughout its history.
Its mission is structured around four fundamental pillars: information, dissemination, education, and inspiration. A particularly significant aspect of its output remains exclusive, including the live or specially recorded transmission of major concerts and operas from leading venues across Spain. Through its collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the station also provides access to outstanding symphonic, chamber, and operatic performances from major international stages, while enabling Spanish concerts to reach a wider global audience. Approximately 30 hours of weekly programming are devoted to these national and international performances, accessible both across Spain and worldwide via its website.
In the 2025–2026 season, marking its 60th anniversary, the station reinforces its commitment to presenting classical music as a living intangible heritage. It continues to adapt to the communicative demands of the 21st century in order to reach new and younger audiences, while maintaining the excellence of its sound design and the rigor of its editorial standards. The station has expanded its live activity by hosting and presenting performances from its studios at Casa de la Radio in Prado del Rey, as well as from various cultural venues. It also records programs in numerous Spanish cities, in collaboration with a wide network of public and private institutions that actively promote classical music. Furthermore, Radio Clásica has strengthened its audiovisual dimension with the launch of “Radio Clásica TV” on its official website and a significant expansion of its presence on social media platforms, marking a new stage in its development.
