65th International Rostrum of Composers: Registration is open!

IMC is pleased to announce that the 65th session of the International Rostrum of Composers (IRC) will be held in Budapest, Hungary, May 15 – 19 2018. This flagship program of the International Music Council will be held for the first time ever in Hungary, thanks to the invitation of our partner, the Bartok Radio – MTVA.

Since the foundation of IRC in 1955, some 400 composers have been promoted and their works broadcast thousands of times within the network of participating radios. After 65 years, the IRC continues today to be the most important platform for the promotion of contemporary music via radio broadcast with more than 800 broadcast of the selected works in the last season.

Starting with the 2015 edition, the impact and outreach of the IRC were reinforced as it became part of an EU co-funded project: Rostrum+. This project used the IRC as a platform to promote contemporary classical music and gave to the IRC a bigger impact and we are happy to announce that some of its actions like the streaming week Listen, Vote, Win or the sound corner IRCSound will continue beyond the project’s life.

Thanks to our partnerships, selected composers in the two categories will be offered a commission. For the General Category, IMC will commission a work which will be recorded and broadcast by Radio France while for the Under-30 category, thanks to Swedish Radio, the selected composer will benefit from a short-residence program with recording and live broadcast with the Ensemble NEO in Sweden.

As many of you have already experienced, the Rostrum represents also a major opportunity for professional development and networking between colleagues from all over the world. Besides open mic sessions and the traditional interview with a composer, we are very pleased to offer the delegates of this year’s edition a special workshop on the interaction between radio audience and presenters.

Once again, we hope that your organization will participate to listen to the finest recent compositions, meet colleagues and reaffirm the role of public service in the promotion of contemporary music.
We draw your attention to the deadline to submit the registration: April 23, 12:00 (Paris Time)
